Starlight Motel - Mesa, AZ
Created in 1960, this is one of America's most iconic vintage neon signs. I first photographed it in the mid-1980s long before it had been restored in 2013. This photo was taken in June, 2021.
Known to the locals as "The Diving Lady", the sign stood majestically as a beacon along Mesa's Main Street to draw attention to the motel's lovely kidney shaped swimming pool. In a brilliant three-part neon lit sequence, the woman diver appeared to be diving straight into the refreshing pool water.
